What is FOnline Rising?

FOnline Rising is a free fan-made online RPG in the world of Fallout 1 and 2. All towns from both games are on one world map, from Arroyo to the Glow, and we added 94 new locations: caves, bunkers, ruins and a new region in the north, the Cinder Desert.

Combat is real-time with action points. There are over 260 quests, crafting, town control and player factions. No cash shop, nothing to buy.

How to start

  1. Get Fallout 2

FOnline Rising uses the art from Fallout 2, so you need your own copy. You can get it on Steam or GOG.

  2. Download the game

Unzip it anywhere and start FOnline Rising. On the first start, the game asks for your Fallout 2 folder.

  3. Create your character

Make an account in the main menu, set your SPECIAL and pick your start: Replication 1 near Klamath, or Vault 13.

The game

Fallout 1 and 2 on one map
All towns from both games, plus 94 new locations: caves, bunkers, ruined buildings and camps. Each one has a boss and loot, and most have their own quest. Random dungeons also show up on the world map and disappear again after they're cleared.
Real-time combat
Every action costs action points, like in Fallout. Monsters have levels, and you'll run into elite enemies and bosses. Weapons and armor wear out and need repairs.
Character building
SPECIAL, skills, traits and perks like in Fallout 2, with the perk list from FOnline: Reloaded. On top of that there's the Mastery tree for long-term builds. The doctor can reset your skills and perks for 5,000 caps.
Crafting and gathering
Chop wood, mine ore, gather plants and search junk piles for parts. Craft weapons, armor, ammo and chems at workbenches. Professions and blueprints work like in Reloaded.
Towns, factions and trade
Take over a town and collect its income, build a base for your faction, hire your own traders or buy a private mine. Trains, cars and caravans get you around the wasteland.
PvP only in PvP zones
Other players can only attack you in the Cinder Desert, in PvP locations, in the Ripper's warehouse and in arena fights or duels you accept. In towns, on quests and in normal random encounters they can't hurt you.

The Cinder Desert

A new region at the top of the world map, north of Klamath. Before the war it was forest, now it's ash and black glass. Monsters are level 75 to 92, kills give 25% more XP and the loot is better. Up there you'll find 12 new locations, a trading post and two forts that players can capture.

PvP zone

Everyone can attack everyone in the Desert. If you die, other players can take two items from your body before you get back to it.

FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes. No cash shop, no premium account, nothing to buy. Donations only pay for the server.

Do I need Fallout 2?

Yes. The game uses the art from Fallout 2, so you need your own copy from Steam or GOG. On the first start, the game asks for your Fallout 2 folder.

Where do I create an account?

In the main menu of the game. There's no registration on this website. You can have up to 5 characters per account.

Can other players kill me?

Only in PvP zones: the Cinder Desert, the PvP locations, the Ripper's warehouse, and arena fights or duels you accept. Everywhere else other players can't hurt you, your followers or your items.

What happens when I die?

You respawn for free at the doctor in the nearest town, or at your own camp. Your items stay in a bag where you died, and only you can open it. In PvP zones other players can take two items from your body: two in total, not two each.

Does it run on Mac or Linux?

It's made for Windows. Mac and Linux aren't supported right now.

I found a bug. What now?

Send it to contact@fonline-rising.dev, with a screenshot if you can. Please don't use bugs that give you items or caps.
